Baseball Sweeps the Weekend

The Pirate baseball team played two doubleheaders over this past weekend. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

Win 2-1 over Coastal South

In the first game of the double header against Coastal South, runs did not come easy. Josiah Glodfelter started for the Pirates and went six innings, allowing one run on three hits, zero walks, and striking out five batters. Glodfelter's performance kept the Pirates in the game until the 7th inning when John Smith came up with two outs and Michael Young on base. Smith hit a double into the left field corner that scored Young and gave the Pirates the lead. Tucker Jackson came in and shut the door in the bottom of the 7th striking out two in order to get the save.

Win 7-1 over Coastal South

The offense was led by Jonathan Little who had two hits in the game, one of them being a 2-run homerun in the second inning. John Smith and Preston Herce both had a double on the day and scored a run a piece.

Julian Mlodzinski got the start and went six innings, striking out six batters and only allowing one run. He battled and gave the offense a chance to get rolling in the middle innings. Dalton Biggs made quick work of the Coyotes in the bottom of the 7th inning by only having to throw nine pitches to record the final three outs.

Win over Enterprise State 10-0

The offense came out hot in the first inning. John Smith started the game off with a leadoff homerun. Carter McCulley followed Smith with a homerun of his own. Todd Clay joined the party by hitting the Pirates 3rd homerun in the first inning, driving in two runs. Nine of the Pirates 14 hits went for extra bases. Michael Young (2), Blaydon Plain, Carson Hepworth, Jackson Hiatt, and Jonathan Little each had doubles in the game. The entire lineup provided offense with 8-of-9 Pirate batters having an RBI in the game.

Matteo Pare made quick work of Enterprise on the mound. Pare went a complete game (5 innings), striking out five and only allowing three hits. He managed to only throw 59 pitches in the five innings and never wavered.

Win over Enterprise State 11-1

The Pirates were led offensively by Todd Clay, who had four RBI's in the game. Clay hit his 3rd triple of the year, which puts him in a tie for the most in the country. Blaydon Plain, Preston Herce and Iyad Ansari also enjoyed multi-hit games for the Pirates.

Jacob Jordan got the win going two innings, only allowing one unearned run on two hits and struck out two batters. Jase Phillips, Hunter Pankey, and Jacob Crews all threw an inning apiece and gave up no runs in their three innings of work.
