Baseball Continues to Roll

March 11th

Win over Chipola 10-9 

Carter McCulley hit two homeruns and drove in three as the Pirates beat Chipola 10-9. Both offenses were strong as the Pirates collected 15 hits and Chipola had eight. The Pirates took the lead in the 4th inning with homeruns by Michael Young and Carson Hepworth. They added to their lead in the 7th with both McCulley and Blaydon Plain hitting homeruns. McCulley's second homer came in the 9th inning to give the Pirates some breathing room. Matteo Pare got the win throwing six innings with three strikeouts.

 

March 13th

Loss to Chipola 5-2 

The Pirates fell to Chipola 5-2 after a good performance by the Indians pitching staff. The only two RBI's of the game for the Pirates came from Todd Clay on a sacrifice fly and Preston Herce on a single. Josiah Glodfelter started on the mound and went 5.2 innings allowing zero earned runs and striking out seven.
The Indian bats outdid the Pirates in the contest.

 

March 18th

Win over NWF 9-3 

Jackson Hiatt collected three hits for the Pirates as they defeated NWF 9-3. Hiatt hit a solo homerun, doubled, and singled on the day. A sacrifice fly by Blaydon Plain got the scoring going for the Pirates in the first inning. Another sacrifice fly by Preston Herce to score Carson Hepworth added to the run total. Michael Young added four hits on the day, two of them being doubles. Todd Clay had three hits on the day with one double. Julian Mlodzinski got the start and went six innings, striking out three and allowing only two runs. Tucker Jackson came in to shut down the Raiders by going 1.1 innings and allowing no hits. Dalton Biggs also tossed 1.2 innings in relief, allowing only one run and striking out three batters.

 

March 20th

Loss to NWF 13-8 

Both teams scored a combined 21 runs on the day as the Pirates could not keep up with the Raiders in the loss. Offensively the Pirates were led by John Smith who drove in three runs on his bases clearing double, and had two hits on the day. Todd Clay hit a big homerun to left field to tie the game in the middle innings.

 

March 23rd

Win over Gulf Coast 19-18 

Michael Young drove in six runs on two hits to lead the Pirates to victory. Young hit a massive go-ahead grand slam in the top of the 9th inning to give the Pirates the lead going into the bottom of the 9th. He also doubled in the 4th inning driving in two runs. Four Pirates homered on the day: Carson Hepworth, Carter McCulley, John Smith and Michael Young. Carson Hepworth had a great day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a triple and homer while walking once and getting HBP twice and scored three times. Preston Herce had a 3-hit day while driving in two runs and scoring four more of his own.

 

March 24th

Win over Gulf Coast 9-8 

Michael Young was the hero for the second day in a row for the Pirates. He came up in the bottom of the 11th inning with the bases loaded and the game tied and finished it with a great walk-off RBI single to give the Pirates the win in extra innings. Carter McCulley tied the game in bottom of the 11th with a huge 2-RBI double. McCulley had three hits and three RBI on the day with two doubles. Blaydon Plain had two hits and three RBI with one double of his own. Todd Clay had two hits and double. Tucker Jackson threw 3.2 innings in relief, allowing just one run on three hits and struck out two. Brett Nestande threw 1.2 innings of shutout baseball in relief. Dalton Biggs also went 1.2 innings and gave up no earned runs.
