Coach Pena and the Pirates have been busy this summer. The players endured basketball workouts, weight workouts, classes, and enjoyed giving back to the community. The Pirates volunteered to set up for the Ronald McDonald 5K on the first day of July. The players were up at 4:30am and set up the tents and booths at the finish line prior to the start of the race.

The Pirates have also partnered with the Spectrum House, a local Autism Center, over the summer. The Spectrum House provides treatment programs to help the areas youth with Autism Spectrum Disabilities (ASD) reach their highest potential. The Spectrum House came over to Hartsell Arena for a field trip. The Pirates' put them through various basketball drills and games. "We had a great time. The kids had so much personality and we had a lot of fun playing games and interacting with them. We're excited for the next time" said sophomore Daryl Lewis. Coach Pena said, "It was extremely rewarding to witness the interaction between our guys and the kids." The Pirates plan to have more events set up in the near future.
