Griffin Throws No-hitter in Sweep of TCC

The Pirate softball team swept Tallahassee Community College (TCC) at home on Saturday with scores of 6-0 and 5-0.

Game one saw Kaeleen Koehler throw a gem of a game as she gave up no runs and scattered five hits.

In the bottom of the first PSC got their offense going when Alexis Guzman doubled to right center to drive in the first run of the game.

The Pirates added five runs in the fifth to help secure the victory. Jensen Strickland started things with a single and a TCC error allowed one run to score before a double from Natalie Sorensen drove in another run to make it 3-0. After a walk and single another error allowed PSC's fourth run and then a single from Guzman rounded out the scoring.

Lia Johnson was 3-for-4 in the game with a run scored and stolen base while Guzman was 2-for-3 with three RBI's

In the second game Shelby Griffin didn't allow a hit and struck out eight batters to pick up the win.

The Pirates got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Madison Marshall smashed a 3-run home run over the left field fence. Shelby Thornsberry re-started the offense with a single and eventually scored on a single off the bat of Brittney Rayfield to make it 4-0.

The lead was extended to 5-0 in the fifth when Alexandra Verardi socked her first collegiate home run to center field.

The score held for the rest of the game as a strong defense helped Griffin pick up her first no-hitter of her collegiate career.

With the wins PSC moves to 7-3 in the conference and 22-15 overall. They will travel to Northwest Florida on Tuesday, March 27 for a double header at 4:00 and 6:00 pm.
