Pirates Sweep Coastal Alabama-South

The Pensacola State softball team hosted Coastal Alabama-South on Tuesday night and swept both games. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

Shayne O'Connell threw a 2-hit shutout to lead the Pirates past Coastal Alabama-South in the first game Tuesday. 

While pitching was strong on both sides O'Connell walked away with the win while striking out 13.

The Pirates got on the board in the fourth when Ashley Valencia doubled to start things off and later scored when a Coastal player misplayed a deep fly ball off the bat of Ana Reyes.

Madisen Nelson was 2-for-3 at the plate while Reyes, Valencia, Natalie Sorensen, Kaeleen Koehler (double) and Kayla Leibman all added hits.

In the second game Savannah Foster toed the rubber and threw a 3-hit shutout to pick up the win.

The Pirates scored in the first inning when Madison Myers led off with a single and stole second before scoring on a ground ball from Kaeleen Koehler

The second inning started with Ashley Valencia singling, Natalie Sorensen drawing a walk and Madisen Nelson drving in one run. A double off the fence from Destiny Pacetti plated two more runs and scored later in the inningl to make it 5-0.

Pensacola pushed three more runs across in the fourth courtesy of a passed ball and double off the bat of Kat McGlamry.

Foster struck out seven on the night while she picked up her fifth win of the season. 

The Pirates will travel to Sanford, Florida this weekend for four games.
