Pirates Take Doubleheader Against Coastal AL-East

Shayne O'Connell did not allow a run as the Pirates defeated Coastal Alabama-East in the first game on Tuesday. 

Pensacola State fired up the offense in the first inning when back-to-back singles from Madison Myers and Kayla Leibman eventually led to a run scored off an error.

The scoring continued in the second inning when Natalie Sorensen led off with a single and advanced to third on a hard single off the bat of Raquel Latta. After Latta stole second base both runners scored on a single to center from Madison Myers to make the score 3-0.

In the third inning the Pirates loaded the bases and Ana Reyes smashed a grand slam over the left field fence to extend the lead to 7-0. 

The offense continued to roll in the fourth inning when Leibman started things with a walk and Kaeleen Koehler singled and both scored on a single from Natalie Sorensen. The 8-run lead rule was in effect and the game ended when PSC collected 3 outs in the top of the fifth.

O'Connell only gave up two hits while striking out 9 and picked up her 11th win of the season. The Pirates recorded 10 hits in the game with Ana Reyes (HR, 4 RBI), Madison Myers (2 RBI, 2 stolen bases) and Natalie Sorensen (2 RBI) each collecting two in the game.

Coastal AL-East 1 PSC 6

The second game saw the Pirates in control the whole time in route to a 6-1 win. 

Again PSC struck in the first inning when Madison Myers led off with a single, stole second and later scored on a single from Alexis Guzman. Myers swiped three stolen bases in the game.

Coastal used a walk and double to get on the board in the third inning and the Pirates immediately answered with four runs of their own. Kaeleen Koehler walked to start things and was driven in by a double to center from Guzman. Guzman scored courtesty of an error and a passed ball plated one more run for the Pirates before an RBI single from Sadie Rusteika made it 5-1. 

The scoring was rounded out in the bottom of the sixth when Natalie Sorensen drove in a run with a double to right.

Savannah Foster controlled things on the mound for PSC and struck out 12 batters while only allowing three hits. Madison Myers was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate while Alexis Guzman (2B, 2 RBI), Ashley Valencia (RBI, stolen base) and Sadie Rusteika (RBI, stolen base) each added two hits. 

Pensacola State will host a doubleheader with Kankakee at home on Thursday, March 7th starting at 3:00 pm.
