Pirates Split With Gulf Coast

The Pensacola State softball team hosted Gulf Coast State on Tuesday and split the doubleheader.

The Pirates struck in the first inning when Madison Myers led things off with a single and stole second base. After a single from Kaeleen Koehler, Alexis Guzman singled to left to plate Myers and give PSC the lead that they would never surrender.

They extended their lead in the third inning when Koehler led off with a walk and eventually scored on a ground ball from Kayla Leibman. Natalie Sorensen followed with a single before Ana Reyes doubled to left field to drive in two runs and give the Pirates a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth Gulf Coast got on the board when they used a single and error to make it 4-1.

Pensacola answered in their half of the inning when Sorensen drew a walk and Kat McGlamry scored her with a double to center field to give PSC a four run lead again. 

The scoring was capped off in the sixth when Sadie Rusteika started things with a double and then scored courtesy of a single up the middle off the bat of Alexis Guzman.

Shayne O'Connell pitched PSC to the 6-1 win by only allowing five hits and striking out nine batters.

The Pirates tallied 12 hits in the game with Sadie Rusteika, Kaeleen Koehler, Alexis Guzman and Ana Reyes each collecting two in the game.

The tides turned in the second game of the evening and the Pirates fell 15-0 in five innings.
