Pirates Fall at Gulf Coast

Pensacola State softball passed the lead back-and-forth with Gulf Coast on Friday, but eventually the Commodores prevailed 7-6.

The Pirates struck first in the third inning when Madison Myers singled and stole second base to get things started. She eventually scored on a single off the bat of Kaeleen Koehler

Gulf Coast responded in their half of the inning by stringing together some doubles to take a 3-1 lead. 

Pensacola answered in the top of the fourth by plating three runs of their own to retake the lead. Natalie Sorensen walked then an error and hit by pitch loaded the bases. Raquel Latta and Madison Myers both produced RBI ground outs before Sadie Rusteika legged out an infield single to allow the fourth run to score.

Again Gulf Coast used a double in the bottom of the inning to go back on top 5-4.

The scoring continued in the top of the fifth when Kaeleen Koehler led off with a single, Kayla Leibman walked and Natalie Sorensen singled to left to load the bases. Kat McGlamry hit a hard ground ball that the defense misplayed and two runs scored to give the Pirates a 6-5 lead. 

The score held until the bottom of the sixth when the Commodores were able to take the lead for good and held on for the win.

The Pirates tallied eight hits in the game with Kaeleen Koehler and Sadie Rusteika both collecting two.

Savannah Foster and Kaeleen Koehler split the pitching duties on the day with Foster collecting five strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work.
