Pirates Top Chipola in Exciting Fashion

The Pirate softball team had to move up their doubleheader against Chipola due to weather and played in Marianna on Tuesday. Pensacola picked up a thrilling and important sweep. Continue reading below for game details.

PSC 4 Chipola 2

Pensacola got on the board in the top of the first when Karri Pritchard led off with a single and advanced on an error. Kylee Crowder then singled to load the bases and Pritchard scored on a ground ball from Bre'Asia Thomas. In their turn the Indians were able to tie the game courtesy of a double and error.

The score remained knotted at one until the fifth when Hannah Waltman reached on an error and then scored on a double from Karri Pritchard. Marina Goins followed with an RBI single to right to give PSC a 3-1 lead.

Pritchard picked up another RBI in the sixth when she blasted her second double of the game to left and extended the Pirates lead to 4-1.

Chipola pushed another run across in the bottom of the sixth to round out the scoring on the day.

Gabriella Lindsey pitched a gem and moved to 4-0 on the season. She threw a complete game scattering six hits and not giving up any earned runs.

Karri Pritchard led the offense going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Cara Willis was 2-for-3 with a run scored while Kylee Crowder also added two hits in the game.

PSC 3 Chipola 2

Chipola took an early lead in the first inning with the help of back-to-back doubles, but the Pirates rallied late to pick up the important win.

The Pirates got on the board in the fifth when Gabbie York led off with a double and later scored on a 2-out single from Abbie Morris.

With the score 2-1 in Chipola's favor, Marina Goins singled in the top of the sixth and Kylee Crowder stepped to the plate and smacked a laser to left field. Goins was able to beat the throw to the plate and when the catcher tried to cut Crowder down at third the throw sailed into left and she was able to score the go ahead run.

Things were tense in the bottom of the seventh when Chipola had runners on second and third with only one out, but Madison Sabo was able to lock in and induced a fly out for the second out and fielded a ground ball herself for the final out.

Sabo had a strong outing in the circle throwing a complete game giving up six hits and only one earned run to go with three strikeouts.

Kylee Crowder was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored. Abbie Morris added a hit and RBI.

Pensacola will host Northwest Florida on Saturday, April 13th for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
