Vason Signs with UNC-Wilmington

Sophomore Lady Pirate Ahyiona Vason has signed her letter of intent to continue her playing career with the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Vason is a 5-foot 4-inch point guard who hails from Montgomery, Alabama and will graduate from PSC in May with an associate degree in sports fitness and recreation management.

As a freshman she earned First-Team All-Conference honors and averaged 9.9 points and 4.7 assists per contest. Vason was honored as the Division I JUCO National Player-of-the-Week on January 11, 2017. In addition to her athletics awards, Vason was also a member of the 2016-17 Panhandle Conference All-Academic Team.

Lady Pirates Head Coach Penny Belford describes Vason as a model athlete. "We can count on her to give her all during every game, at practice and in the classroom," Jones said. "She's also a leader on the team and serves as a mentor for our freshmen players. Ahyiona will be missed but she will be successful and a big contributor to the UNCW Seahawks."
