Lady Pirates Overcome by Gulf Coast State

The no. 16 Lady Pirates faced the number two ranked team in the nation Wednesday night and fell 85-66. 

Both teams came out strong and fought to a close 21-17 score at the end of the first quarter. While both teams were matched evenly in the field goal percentage category, Gulf Coast State was able to use their three point shooting (41.2%) to help them pull away as the game progressed. They took a commanding 50-32 lead into halftime and never relented. 

Pensacola State (PSC) finally outscored the Commodores in the fourth quarter, but the damage was done. 

Naterria Luster was the high scorer for the Lady Pirates as she racked up 22 points as well as five rebounds in the game. Nia Johnson contributed 15 points and four assists while Mylashia Yancey chipped in 11 points and six rebounds. 

The Lady Pirates will travel to Marianna, Florida on Saturday to face Chipola College at 5:30 pm. In their last meeting PSC defeated the Indians 80-70.
