Lady Pirates Open Season With Two Wins

The Pensacola State women's basketball team officially kicked off their 2018-19 campaign with two solid wins this past weekend. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

PSC 90 Central Ga. Tech 52

The Lady Pirates got out to a fast start on Friday versus Central Georgia Tech and never looked back. They cruised into halftime with a 42-24 lead and then proceeded to put up 48 points in the second half for a dominant 90-52 win. 

PSC had six double digit scorers in the game with Brandi Washington leading the way with 20 points (Daja Woodard - 13, Kailya Jackson & Savannah Walker-Lafler - 12, Zamaria Polk & Kaiya Burnett - 10). Amaz Carmichael pulled down a game high eight rebounds while Daja Woodard swiped a game high seven steals. 

The Lady Pirates shot a solid 42.7% from the field to go along with an impressive 62.5% from 3-point range. 

 

PSC 63 Chattahoochee Valley 53

On Saturday PSC outlasted Chattahoochee Valley in a tough game to collect their second win of the season. The score was knotted at 14 after the first quarter before the Lady Pirates surged ahead in the second quarter to take a 34-21 lead into the half. 

Anita Payne led the offensive attack for the Lady Pirates with 15 points in the game and was joined in double figures by Kailya Jackson (13 points) and Daja Woodard (11 points). Jackson also contributed a game high nine rebounds while Daja Woodard swiped a game high five steals. 

The defense was strong for PSC throughout the game as they forced a season high 30 turnovers.

The Lady Pirates will return to action on Tuesday, November 6th when they travel to Coastal Alabama-North.
