Lady Pirates Go 1-1 Over The Weekend

The Pensacola State women's basketball team hit the road this past weekend for games against Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) and Santa Fe College. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

PSC 89 FSCJ 33

The Lady Pirates hit the floor running on Saturday versus FSCJ and never looked back. They held a 29-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended that lead to 37 points by halftime. The offense slowed down a little in the second half, but PSC walked away with the easy win. The 56 point margin of victory is their highest of the season so far, while the 33 points allowed is the fewest they have given up all season. 

The Lady Pirates had six players score in double figures with Daja Woodard leading the way with 20 points. She was joined by Kaiya Burnett (14 pts), Brandi Washington (10 pts), Amaz Carmichael (10 pts), Xerina Walker (10 pts) and Sade Mobley (10 pts). Amaz Carmichael was the leading rebounder in the game as she pulled down eight, including five offensive boards. 

PSC 67 Santa Fe 77

Pensacola State jumped out to an 18-12 lead in the first quarter before Santa Fe overtook them in the second quarter and went into the half with a 35-32 lead. The game was close throughout the second half, but Santa Fe held on to hand the Lady Pirates their first loss of the season. 

Brandi Washington led the offense with 16 points while Anita Payne chipped in 12. Xerina Walker was the top rebounder for PSC as she grabbed eight in the game. 

The Lady Pirates are now 4-1 overall in the season and will host Coastal Alabama-North at home Tuesday, November 20th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm and the Pirate men's basketball team will play afterwards.
