Lady Pirates Pick Up Two Wins

The Pensacola State women's basketball team traveled to Fort Meyers, Florida this past weekend and picked up wins over Eastern Florida State College (EFSC) and Hillborough Community College (HCC). Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

The Lady Pirates found themselves trailing by two points after the first quarter before they turned it on in the second quarter to take a 53-47 lead into the half. They proceeded to outscore the Titans, 40-39, in the second half to secure the win.

Daja Woodard collected her fourth double-double of the season as she scored a season high 28 points and grabbed a personal best 15 rebounds. Xerina Walker also recorded a double-double, her second of the season, with 15 points and 13 rebounds (10 offensive). Three other Lady Pirates reached double figures in scoring: Brandi Washington (18), Kaiya Burnett (16) and Anita Payne (14). Anita Payne also contributed a season high eight assists in the game. Pensacola State shot a season high 84% from the free throw line to help secure the victory.

The Lady Pirates used a well balanced offensive attack to down Hillsborough in their second game of the weekend. Five players scored in double figures with Kaiya Burnett leading the way with 19 points. Brandi Washington and Daja Woodard both contributed 17 points while Xerina Walker tallied 14 and Kailya Jackson 11. Daja Woodard worked hard on the boards and came down with a season high 21 rebounds to collect her fifth double-double of the year. 

Pensacola State will return to action on Tuesday when they host Bishop State at 5:30 pm.
