Lady Pirates Return to Action with Two Wins

The Pensacola State women's basketball team returned from Christmas break and picked up two wins over the weekend. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

PSC 80 North Arkansas 64

The Lady Pirates came out of the gate a little slow after their Christmas break, but they found their rhythm in the second half and defeated North Arkansas on Friday. Brandi Washington led the offensive attack with 20 points while also swiping three steals in the game. Three other Lady Pirates joined her in double digits in the scoring column: Anita Payne (13 points), Kailya Jackson (12 points) and Daja Woodard (10 points). Xerina Walker came off the bench to grab a team high eight rebounds, while also chipping in nine points. 

PSC 74 Indian River 66

The Lady Pirates found themselves in a back and forth contest with Indian River State College on Saturday afternoon. Despite only taking a one point lead into the fourth quarter, PSC was able to pull away for the victory by outscoring the Pioneers 20-13. 

Kaiya Burnett scored a game high 20 points while Kailya Jackson recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Xerina Walker led the effort on the boards by grabbing 12 rebounds, 10 of them on the offensive end. Daja Woodard joined Walker and Jackson in double digit rebounds with 10. 

Pensacola State will open conference play on January 5th when they travel to Northwest Florida State.
