Lady Pirates Topped by NWF

The second round of Panhandle play kicked off Wednesday night in Hartsell Arena and the Lady Pirates fell to the nation's number one team 69-58.

Northwest Florida (NWF) ran out to a 22-10 lead in the first quarter before Pensacola State (PSC) got their legs under them and outscored the Raiders 17-14 in the second quarter to pull within nine going into halftime.

In the third quarter NWF extended their lead before the Lady Pirates outscored them in the fourth quarter but it was not enough. While PSC got many looks at the basket, 22 more shots than NWF, they could not make them fall.

Every Lady Pirate did make it in the scoring column with Savannah Walker-Lafler scoring a personal best 12 points. Kaiya Burnett came off the bench to lead PSC with 14 points. Daja Woodard was the leading rebounder with seven points.

Pensacola State will have a week off to prepare for Gulf Coast State on Wednesday, January 30.
