Lady Pirates Come Up Short

The Pensacola State women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to no. 7 Gulf Coast State on Wednesday night. 

The Lady Pirates had their best shooting performance of the season and jumped out to a 50-31 lead by halftime. Sade Mobley fueled the offensive attack in the first half by scoring a personal best 17 points. 

Gulf Coast started to find their footing and used a 9-0 scoring run in the third quarter to pull within 59-51. They used pressure defense to chip away at the lead and eventually tied the game at 75-75 with 1:27 to go in the game. Pensacola State got the last shot in regulation but Kaiya Burnett's 3-pointer rimmed out and the teams headed to overtime. The Lady Pirates struggled to score in overtime and they fell 91-83. 

Brandi Washington was the high scorer for PSC with 30 points that included going 6-for-8 from 3-point range. Kaiya Burnett chipped in 10 points and Zamaria Polk led the rebounding effort with 12 in the game. The Lady Pirates set season high's for shooting with 71.4% from the floor, 85.7% from 3-point range and 73.3% from the free throw line. 

Pensacola State will regroup and travel to Tallahasse on Saturday, February 2nd and try and pick up their first Panhandle win.
