Lady Pirates Extend Win Streak

The Pensacola State women's basketball team traveled to Ocala, Florida to compete in College of Central Florida Shootout this past weekend.

In the first game of the weekend the Lady Pirates took on Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). After getting off to a rough start the Lady Pirates only took an eight point lead into halftime.

They rebounded in the second half and really applied the pressure to pull away with a 82-59 victory.

Four Lady Pirates scored in double digits; Lenaejha Evans (17 pts), ZaMaria Polk (13 pts), Anita Payne (13 pts) and Kaiya Burnett (11 pts).

Payne was the leading rebounder for PSC with six in the game.

The Lady Pirates wrapped up day two of the Shootout with a 61-49 win against Santa Fe College.

A slow start gave the Lady Pirates only a one point lead heading into halftime. Despite battling foul trouble and fatigue, PSC was able to fight through and finish with a victory.

Once again Lanaejha Evans was the leading scorer with 13 points & Kaiya Burnett contributed 11 points. ZaMaria Polk led the team in rebounding with seven including five of those being offensive boards.

The team returned to Pensacola and hosted Coastal Alabama-North on Tuesday, November 19th.

Evans kept up her high scoring pace by leading all scorers with 26 points while four out of the five starters for PSC put up double digits on offense: Polk (18 pts), Burnett (10 pts) and Payne (10 pts). 

Taylor Williams came off the bench to contribute 10 rebounds while Burnett dished out five assists. 

The Lady Pirates cruised to a 79-50 victory that extended their win streak to seven games. 

They will host the Pensacola Classic this upcoming weekend at Hartsell Arena. On Friday, they will face FSCJ at 5:30 pm and will be back on the court Saturday to take on Daytona State at 2:00 pm.
