Lady Pirates Win Overtime Thriller

The Pensacola State women's basketball team defeated Gulf Coast State in an overtime thriller on Thursday night.

It was the Panhandle opener for both teams and the game was tight throughout. The Lady Pirates held a slim six point lead going into halftime.

After going back and forth throughout the second half Pensacola found itself behind by three with about 20 seconds left. That's when Kristin Williams banked in a 3-pointer from the wing to tie the game.

Both teams were operating on fumes in overtime, but the Lady Pirates kept fighting and dove to the floor for loose balls many times. The game was knotted at 71 when Zahra Daniel drove to the basket and was fouled with six seconds left of the clock.

After missing the first free throw, she swished the second to put Pensacola in the lead. Gulf Coast used a timeout to advance the ball to halfcourt, but their final shot was wide and PSC won.

Tai'Sheka Porchia led Pensacola in the scoring and rebounding column with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Zahra Daniel added 14 points and seven rebounds while Caliana Fenceroy chipped in 13 points.

The Lady Pirates are 13-1 overall and ranked no. 16 in the nation. They will travel to Chipola on Saturday, January 8th and will tip-off against the Indians at 2:00 pm.
