Volleyball Completes Tough Road Trip

It was as tough weekend for Pirate volleyball as they traveled to Gainesville to face Santa Fe before heading to Jacksonville to compete against Florida State College of Jacksonville and Johnson County Community College (Kansas). The Pirates dropped a tough 3-1 (17-25, 13-25, 25-16, 18-25) decision to Santa Fe. Ytae Cobb led the Pirate hitters with seven kills and Allison von Brock anchored the defense with 15 digs in the game.

In the second game of the trip the Pirates fell to FSCJ 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 12-25, 11-25). Cobb again led the attack as she recorded 13 kills in the match and Elizabeth Thompson chipped in five blocks. The tough day continued against Johnson County as the Pirates fell again 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 22-25, 23-25) in a hard fought match. Cobb pounded out 20 kills and Bailey Powell contributed 18 kills of her own. "We're going through some growing pains as we're relying on a lot of freshmen to help us be successful", says Coach Chris Laird. "We have the right players, and now we need to commit to playing at a higher level throughout the entire match. We're excited to play at home this week as we host Panhandle Conference foe, Gulf Coast and then St. Johns River."
