Pirate Volleyball Picks Up Two Conference Wins

PSC 3  Gulf Coast State 1

The PSC Volleyball team picked up it's first conference win last week when they hosted Gulf Coast State College. The Pirates jumped out early and took the first two sets in the match (25-22, 25-21). They dropped a hard fought third set 22-25 before they bounced back and locked up the victory with a 25-17 win of the fourth set. Bailey Powell led all hitters with 20 kills while Ytae Cobb contributed 16 kills. Baylee Young helped anchor the defense while collecting eight digs in the match.

PSC 3  St. Johns River State 1

This past weekend the Pirates added to their win total by defeating St. Johns River State College 3-1 (25-27, 26-24, 25-18, 25-23). Each set in the match was hotly contested with extra points being needed to close out the first two sets. Elizabeth Thompson was the leading hitter for the Pirates with 13 kills while Ytae Cobb chipped in 11 kills. Allison von Brock led the defense as she tallied 11 digs in the match.

These two victories evened the Pirates conference record at 2-2 and puts them in third place at the moment. The top two teams in the conference, Florida State College Jacksonville and Santa Fe, will travel to Pensacola in the upcoming two weeks and the Pirates hope to capitalize on their home court advantage and move up in the standings. Only the top two teams in each conference will qualify for the FCSAA State Championship in November.
