Volleyball Gets Big Win on Sophomore Day

The Pirate volleyball team defeated Florida State College at Jacksonville 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-17) on Saturday at home. FSCJ came into the match as the number one team in the conference and also sported an undefeated record in conference play. Sophomore Bailey Powell was the leading hitter for PSC as she pounded out 10 kills in the match and fellow sophomore Ytae Cobb added eight kills. Sophomore Allison Von Brock helped lead the defense with five digs on the day. "It's always nice to show up and perform against a solid team," said Coach Chris Laird. "We look forward to continuing to play good volleyball this week and putting ourselves in a position to make the playoffs."

The Pirates will travel to Gulf Coast State on Wednesday, October 18. If PSC picks up wins this week against Gulf Coast and St. Johns River State, they will be in position to play against the number two team in the conference (either FSCJ or Santa Fe) for the last spot to qualify for States.
