Volleyball Takes Down Gulf Coast

The Pirates started slow on Wednesday night against Gulf Coast, but bounced back to secure the 3-1 (25-27, 25-15, 25-12, 25-12) win. The Commodores needed extra points to win the first set, but after that the Pirates locked in and were able to play their game and remain in control the rest of the match.

Bailey Powell led the offensive attack pounding out 16 kills while Zadie Engelberger contributed 14 kills. They both also helped lead the defense with Engelberger tallying eight digs and Powell six.

The win over Gulf Coast gives the Pirates sole possession of 3rd place in the conference and they will travel to the loser of the Santa Fe vs. Florida State College at Jacksonville match to play for the final spot in the State Tournament. However, first they will focus on playing St. Johns River in Palatka on Friday. "While the result of our match on Friday has no bearing on the overall placement of the teams, of course we want to play our best and be successful," said Coach Laird. "I expect that match to be a tough one."
