Volleyball Finishes Regular Season Play

The Pirate volleyball team capped off regular season play this past weekend with their final conference game versus St. Johns River State and then a Tri-match with Palm Beach State and College of Central Florida. On Friday PSC traveled to Palatka for their last conference match and lost to the Vikings 3-1 (19-25, 28-26, 18-25, 25-27). Ytae Cobb and Elizabeth Thompson led the offense with 13 kills while Teah Wiley chipped in 10 for the match. Allison Von Brock (9 digs) and Baylee Young (8 digs) helped anchor things on the defensive side.

In the first match on Saturday the Pirates fell to Palm Beach State 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 24-26, 24-26). PSC was led offensively by Elizabeth Thompson and Sydney Roberson as they respectively recorded 12 and 11 kills for the match. Baylee Young headed up the defensive effort by collecting 10 digs.

After the close match versus the Panthers the Pirates seemed to run out of steam and they were swept by College of Central Florida 3-0 (12-25, 10-25, 16-25). Ytae Cobb was the leading hitter with seven kills and Allison Von Brock and Baylee Young each picked up four digs in the match.

The Pirates have a big match coming up on Wednesday when they travel to Santa Fe to determine the final representative from the Panhandle Conference to play in the State Tournament. Florida State College of Jacksonville locked in their bid to the tournament by winning the conference regular season crown and now #2 Santa Fe and #3 Pensacola State will hash it out for the last spot. In their previous two meetings this season Santa Fe has come out on top of the Pirates 3-1 and 3-0.
