Pirates Fall to Santa Fe in Playoff Game

The Pensacola State volleyball team fell to number two seed Santa Fe in the play in game for the final spot in the Florida State tournament. The Pirates came out and took the hotly contested first game before dropping the next three and losing 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 18-25, 20-25).

The Pirates had three hitters pound out double digit kills in the match as Zadie Engelberger led the way with 15, Bailey Powell tallied 13 and Ytae Cobb chipped in 10. Powell also helped anchor the defense as she recorded 11 digs in the game.

"We lost to the better team tonight," said Head Coach Chris Laird. "I'm proud of our team's effort in the loss. We played hard until the end and that's all any coach can ask for."

The Pirates were able to bounce back on Thursday and won their final match of the season versus Coastal Alabama - Brewton. They easily swept the Warhawks 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-19). Powell had another strong outing offensively as she led the hitters with 12 kills.
