PSC Baseball Goes 2-2  On The Weekend

PSC Baseball traveled to New Orleans this past weekend for a tournament hosted by Delgado Community College. Pensacola would go 2-2 over the weekend and improve their record to 10-5 on the season. 

On Friday night PSC played the host team Delgado in a 7 inning game. The Pirates would get the bats going early jumping out to a 4-1 lead after two innings. Ryan Brewer would lead off the second with a triple to right field, Xaveir Bussey would drive in Brewer with a single and with two outs Fausto Lopez would drive in two with a base hit back up the middle. Sean Ross would add the fourth run of the inning with a base hit to right. Pensacola would add three more in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-2 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Delgado would take advantage of 5 walks to tie the game at 7. Delgado would eventually win the game 8-7 in the bottom of the 7th on a PSC error to score the winning run. PSC had 14 hits in the loss. Tyson Ellis took the loss giving up 2 unearned runs in 2 innings pitched. PSC was led offensively by Fausto Lopez (3-4,2R,3RBI) and Luke Coker (3-4,2R, 1RBI).

On Saturday, Pensacola sailed to an easy victory over Bryant and Stratton (NY) 13-2. Bryant and Stratton would take an early lead by adding a run in the bottom of the first. In the second, Pensaccola would tie things up with a Luis Colon solo homerun. Pensacola pulled away for good with 5 runs in the third inning. Fausto Lopez doubled on a 1-0 count scoring Owen Cuthbert, Sean Ross would add a sac fly, Luis Colon would knock in1 with a double, and Bryan Eusebio would drive in a pair with a single. Chad Bryant earned the victory on the mound for the Pirates. He allowed four hits and two runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Pensacola tallied 14 hits with two homeruns in the game. Luis Colon's solo Hr in the second and Sean Ross's 3run HR in the fourth. Luis Colon and Bryan Eusebio had three hits to lead Pensacola. 

In the second game, PSC watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 11-5 loss to Delgado. Pensacola struggled to put runs across the board and had a tough time defensively containg Delgado. Down 7-1, Angel Diaz would add a solo homerun in the fifth inning to cut the lead to five. Delgado would add four more runs in the bottom of the fifth, to put the game away. In the sixth inning, Pensacola would get three runs on an error and a two- run homerun from Luis Colon, his second of the game and third of the day. Sam Knowlton took the loss for PSC by going three and a third innings, allowing four hits and six runs while striking out two. 

On Sunday, Pensacola defeated Delgado 9-0 as three pitchers combined to throw the second shutout of the year. The Pirates would add 7 runs in the first four innings to pull away. The offense once again came out swinging as the Pirates put up 13 hits in the win. Jacob Riordan earned the victory for Pensacola. He allowed one hit and zero runs over four and a third innings, striking out three. Dominick Miller and Ryan Brewer would close the game out in relief. 

Pensacola will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Monroeville, AL  to take on Coastal Alabama at 1:00 in a double header.
