Pirates Go 2-1 on the Weekend in New Orleans

Pensacola State traveled over to New Orleans over the weekend to play 4 games. The Pirates would go 2-1 with Sunday's game postponed due to rain. The Pirates are now 5-5 on the season and have won five of their last six games. Continue reading below for recaps.

PSC 13 Delgado 1 (5 innings)

Pensacola's bats would come alive Friday in game 1, recording 10 hits with four doubles.

Pensacola would get the scoring started in the second inning when the first two hitters would reach base on walks. Allen Del Castillo would drive a single to left to score the first run of the game. Two more Delgado walks would lead to two more runs for PSC. With the bases loaded and two outs, Xavier Bussey would drive a double to left to clear the bases and give the Pirates a 5-0 lead.

The scoring would continue in the third inning when the Pirates would score six more runs. Back to back singles by Brandon Schrepf and Hunter Brittain would start the rally. Castillo would drive in Schrepf with his second RBI of the game. Two more Pirates would cross the plate before Brayden Morrow's 3 run double would give the Pirates a 11-0 lead. Two innings later Morrow would drive in two more runs with his second double of the game and give Pensacola a 13-1 lead.

David Warren would notch his second win of the year. The freshman entered the game with a 1-0 record and a 1.00 ERA. Once again, he would be lights out for the Pirates. Warren would go the distance allowing only 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 9.

Xavier Bussey (3-4, 2 2B's, 2R, 3RBI's) and Brayden Morrow (2-4, 2 2B's, 5RBI's) would lead Pensacola offensively.

PSC 10 Bryant & Stratton NY 0 (6 innings)

The Pirates would get their second run rule in as many days with 10-0 win in game 1 Saturday.

Pensacola would start the game with a run in the top of the first on a passed ball that would allow Jovanni Canegitta to score from third.

In the second inning, PSC would score two more runs to increase the lead to three. Allen Del Castillo would drive in Angel Diaz for his third RBI on the weekend. The second Pirate run would come on a RBI groundout by Juan Trinidad

PSC would put the game out of reach with two runs in the fourth, three more in the fifth on a two-run homerun by Hunter Brittain, and three runs in the sixth.

Michael Materesky would record his first win of the season for Pensacola. The sophomore would go 5 innings while allowing 4 hits and strikeout three. Cole Beverlin would take over on the mound in the sixth and strikeout all three batters he faced.

PSC 1 Delgado 9 (7 innings)

Game 2 would be a pitcher's duel for the majority of the game as both starters held offenses scoreless through four innings.

PSC starter Kyle Music was fantastic through four innings not allowing a hit and striking out 8. In the fifth inning however, he ran into a little trouble by allowing a leadoff double and a base on balls before being removed from the game. Cameron Kelly would relieve Music and couldn't contain Delgado as they posted 3 runs in the inning and take a 3-0 lead.

Pensacola would get a run back in the top of the sixth on an Angel Diaz solo homerun, his first of the season.

Delgado would answer right back in the bottom of the sixth with 6 runs on five hits and put the game out of reach.

Pensacola would only record two hits in the ball game off of Delgado starter Hunter Draper. The lefty kept Pirate hitters off balance all game.

Pensacola will be back at home Tuesday February 18th at 2:00pm taking on East Central Community College out of Mississippi.
