Pirates Sweep Delgado 3-0 on Weekend

Pensacola State Baseball won all three games against Delgado over the weekend. On Saturday, Pensacola would come from behind and win in walk-off fashion.  With three wins, the Pirates improved their record to 12-10 on the year and 4-1 versus Delgado. Follow below for post-game updates.

Friday Night: PSC 2 Delgado 0 

David Warren was once again brilliant on the mound for the Pirates. The freshman threw his second shut out of the season going all seven innings while giving up 7 hits and record 8 strikeouts. Warren improved his record to 4-0 on the year. 

The Pirates would open up the scoring in the very first inning. Xavier Bussey would single to left, steal second, and score on a Delgado error to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. The score would remain the same until the bottom of the sixth when the Pirates would get an insurance run on a Brandon Schrepf RBI groundout. 

Saturday G1 PSC 7 Delgado 6

The Dolphins would jump out to an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning off of Pirate starter Kyle Music. Music would settle down and give PSC three shutout innings after the first. 

Down 6-0, the Pirates would finally get their offense going in the fifth inning. PSC would get 6 runs in the sixth to tie the game 6-6.  Allende Gil would start the rally by reaching on an error.  Bryan Scribner and Angel Diaz would follow with back to back singles to get PSC on the scoreboard. A hit by pitch and a walk would lead to another Pirate run to cut the lead to 6-2. Brandon Schrepf and Allende Gil would come up with back to back two-out hits to tie the score at 6. 

The score would remain tied at 6 until the bottom of the seventh when Brandon Schrepf would send a 1-0 fastball over the right field fence for a walk-off homerun and give the Pirates a 7-6 win. Schrepf led Pensacola at the plate, going 2-4 with 2RBI's and his third homerun of the season. 

Cam Kelly would get the win on the mound throwing two scoreless innings in relief. 

Saturday G2 PSC 6 Delgado 5

Pensacola would pick up their second walk-off win of the day in game two. Down 5-0, Pensacola would get three runs in the bottom of the fifth to close the Dolphin lead to two. Bryan Scribner would single to start the inning, and a walk would pu runners on first and second with no outs. With the next two hitters recording outs, Xavier Bussey would reach on an error to score Scribner from third base. Brayden Morrow would come to plate and hit a double to right scoring Diaz and Bussey. 

In the sixth, PSC would get two more runs to even the score at 5. Brandon Schrepf would reach on an infield single. Allende Gil would follow Schrepf with a double down the right field line to put runners on second and third with no outs. Bryan Scribner would drive in Schrepf with a RBI groundout. Angel Diaz would follow with an RBI single to score Gil from third base.

In the bottom of the seventh Hunter Brittain would be the hero for Pensacola. The catcher would step to the plate with no outs and the bases loaded and send a 3-2 fastball into the right-center gap to drive in the winning run. 

Brayden Morrow would lead Pensacola offensively going 2-3 with a double and 2RBI's. Morrow leads Pensacola with 10 doubles and 22RBI's. 

 

Pensacola will open up conference at home Tuesday, March 10th vs Northwest Florida.
