First Installment of Baseball Signees

Pensacola State baseball team has signed 13 players to fill out their 2020-21 roster. We will take a closer look at three players per week. Continue reading below to learn more about the second set of players. 

Trace Goforth

Goforth is a freshman right-handed pitcher from Palmetto, FL. He is a graduate of Palmetto High

School and posted a 12-3 record with a 2.40 ERA throughout his highschool career. 

Why did you choose PSC?

I was very interested in going the junior college route and had the best connection with the staff at PSC. On my visit, I loved the set-up of the school and felt that  Pensacola was the best place for my future. 

Do you have a role model?

My role model is Craig Kimbrell. His mentality on the mound and his laser focus on his job are what I try to immulate every time I pitch. 

What do you bring to a team?

I am a team player that plays for my teammates.

Do you have any goals your freshman season?

I want to build a strong connection with my teammates and earn some playing time through the way I practice. 

What is one thing you look forward to this season?

Taking the next step in my career as a college baseball player

What other colleges were you considering?

Polk State and State College of Florida

Bayron Acevedo

Bayron is a freshman outfielder from Palmetto, FL. He is a graduate of Palmetto High School

and posted a .328 batting average throughout his high school career. 

Why did you choose PSC?

I had a connection with the coaching staff. They were very honest with me and my family and I felt like it was the right fit for me. With PSC being seven hours from home it will allow me to grow on my own. 

Do you have a role model?

My brother. He was always there to give me advice and showed me how to work hard. 

What do you bring to a team?

I bring positivity and am a good teammate

Do you have any goals your freshman season?

To develop a good chemistry with teammates and help Pensacola make the state tournament.

What is one thing you look forward to this season?

All of us improving and developing as a team. Also building lasting freindships with teammates.

State College of Florida

Cooper Porter

Cooper is a freshman infielder from Cedar Grove, NC. He is a graduate of Orange High School

and posted a .333 batting average throughout his high school career. 

Why did you choose PSC?

It came highly recommended because it was a great location, great conference, and great coaching staff. Even though I wasn't able to visit because of the virus, the information that we found about Pensacola let me know that it was the right placee for me. 

Do you have a role model?

Derek Jeter. He is a humble player that doesn't talk about how good he is he just let's his actions do the talking. 

What do you bring to a team?

Confidence and the ability to pick teammates up

Do you have any goals freshman season?

Gain 10-15 pounds and bat over .350

What is one thing you look forward to this season?

Relationships that I am going to build with my teammates.

North Carolina State, East Carolina, University of North Carolina
