Baseball Wins Panhandle Opener

Pensacola State baseball opened Panhandle play with a 3-1 victory at home last night over Gulf Coast State College.

The Pirates opened up a 3-0 lead scoring two runs in the third inning and adding one more in the fourth.

Gulf Coast mounted a threat in the fifth, but PSC was able to stave it off. The Commodores scored their lone run of the game in the sixth.

Jacob Cohen was the winning pitcher going six innings and only allowed two hits, one unearned run, one walk and six strikeouts. Court Connally picked up the save closing out the last three innings and struck out two while walking one.

Matt Abshire led the offense going 2-for-4 with an RBI while Wyatt Strickland and Zeph Hoffpauir each contributed an RBI.

Pensacola will host Gulf Coast again on Thursday night with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 pm.
