Baseball Starts Season with Two Wins

Weather interupted the Pirates opening weekend, but they were able to get two games in. Pensacola hosted Coastal Alabama-North on Sunday and Monday and walked away with two wins. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

Coastal Alabama-North 7 PSC 13

John Smith led the way offensively with three hits that included a homerun and a double. Smith had 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. A big 3rd inning that the Pirates scored six runs in was led by a Michael Young double that drove in three runs. Jackson Hiatt also homered in the game for his first of the year and had three hits of his own on the day.

On the mound, Josiah Glodfelter got the start and went 3.2 innings, striking out eight. Quin Spalding came on in relief and went 3.1 innings and only gave up one earned run. Press Jefcoat finished the game with 1.1 innings, striking out two and letting zero runs across.

 

Coastal Alabama-North 4 PSC 8

The Pirates started the game with three runs in the first inning led by Carter McCulley's first homerun of the year that scored two runs. Blaydon Plain had two hits on the day, including a 2-run homer in the 7th inning. Jay Murdock added two hits of his own, going 2-for-3 on the day with a walk. Todd Clay had a triple that drove in a run in the 6th inning and then was brought home to score by a Michael Young sacrifice fly.

On the mound, Matteo Pare got the start. Pare went three innings, striking out four and surrendering two runs. Julian Mlodzinski and Brett Nestande came in relief and combined for three shutout innings. Tucker Jackson and Jake Crews finished the game, going 2.2 innings and striking out five batters.
