Baseball Goes 3-1 Over the Weekend

Win 14-2 over Mineral Area

Three Pirates had multi-hit games in the six inning run rule over Mineral Area. Led by Michael Young, who went 3-for-4 with a double, homerun, two runs scored, four RBI's. Todd Clay had two hits, one being a double with two runs scored of his own. Jay Murdock had a two hit game that led to him scoring three runs for the Pirates. Jackson Hiatt had a big grand slam in the 2nd inning that led to an eight run inning.

On the mound, Josiah Glodfelter got the start. Josiah went five innings, striking out seven and walking zero batters. Jase Phillips got his first action as a Pirate, throwing one inning and getting his first collegiate strikeout.

 

Win 6-3 over Co-Lin

The Pirates had a slow start the first time through the lineup. After that, the bats showed up. In the 3rd inning, back-to-back-to-back homeruns by John Smith, Carter McCulley, and Blaydon Plain got the Pirates the lead and never turned back. McCulley added another homerun, driving in two more runs in the 4th inning. Blaydon Plain had a three hit game with two RBI and one run scored.

On the mound, Julian Mlodzinski tossed five innings, striking out four and allowing two runs. Tucker Jackson got the save in relief of Mlodzinski. Jackson finished the game with two innings and three strikeouts to give the Pirates the win.

Win 6-0 over Mineral Area

The Pirates came out of the gate hot, scoring two runs in three of the first four innings. Carter McCulley continued his hot start, adding another homerun and two RBI's. Michael Young and Jay Murdock each had a double and one run scored a piece.

Matteo Pare got the start for the Pirates and was lights out. He finished with five innings, eight strikeouts, zero walks, and only allowed three hits during his shutout start. Hunter Pankey finished the final two innings, striking out two and allowing no runs also. Overall, the pitching staff struck out 10 batters, allowing only four hits, and recording their first shutout of the season.

 

Loss 2-6 against Co-Lin

Offensively, the Pirates could not string much together. Having six hits, three of them being doubles, scattered throughout the game. Blaydon Plain, Carson Hepworth, and Todd Clay all recorded doubles. Plain had another multi-hit game to add to the season.

The Pirates defensive struggles led to the six runs that Co-Lin scored. Five of the six runs given up were unearned. Jacob Jordan got his first collegiate start, going two innings and giving up zero runs. Brett Nestande also tossed two scoreless innings of his own, while striking out four batters in relief of Jordan. Dalton Biggs got his first action as a Pirate, going 0.2 innings and striking out his first career batter.
