The Pirates jumped to a quick lead in the first inning with a Blaydon Plain 3-run home run. Three Pirates had a multi-hit game—John Smith had two doubles and two RBI, Plain had two hits with four RBI, and Michael Young had two hits and two runs scored on the day. Carter McCulley continued his run with a two RBI double and two more runs scored of his own.

On the mound, Quin Spalding got the start and went three innings, striking out four and allowing two unearned runs. The bullpen was great with a combination of arms that included Brett Nestande, Matthew Thompson, Tucker Jackson, Hunter Pankey, and Jake Crews. They combined to strike out five batters and allow only one unearned run on four hits.
