Pirate baseball kicked off Panhandle play with an exhilarating game against Gulf Coast State, narrowly falling short with an 11-10 loss. The game was a nail-biter, featuring multiple lead changes and impressive performances from both teams.
Pensacola State College (PSC) started strong, taking an early 3-0 lead in the second inning. However, the Commodores responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to seize the lead. The Pirates fought back, scoring two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to secure a 7-5 advantage. Gulf Coast State quickly countered, tying the game at 7-7 by the end of the fifth.
The Pirates added two more runs in the sixth inning, pulling ahead 9-7. Yet, the Commodores surged in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs to take the lead for good. Despite adding one more run in the eighth, the Pirates could not close the gap.
Kaden Wilks made a triumphant return from injury, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a double. Taft Middleton had an outstanding game, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Tate Sanders was perfect at the plate, delivering a 3-for-3 performance, including a solo home run. Brennon Uglioria also contributed significantly, adding three hits and an RBI.
Despite the loss, the Pirates showcased their resilience and determination. They will look to build on this performance as they continue their Panhandle play.
