Pirates Sweep the Weekend

The Pirates continued regular season play as they travelled down to Niceville, FL for the Northwest Florida State Classic. On Friday, the Pirates locked horns with Meridian Community College (Meridian, MS). Pensacola jumped on the Eagles early and took a 19-point advantage into the halftime break. The second half was more of the same as PSC got the lead to as many as 27 and ended up winning the game by a final score of 76-55. The Pirates held the Eagles to a total of 55 was the best defensive showing of the season thus far. It was a balanced offensive attack throughout the night as four Pirates scored in double figures. Jalen Keago and Dimitri Clerc both recorded 12 points while Elijah Wyche and Enmanuel Ferreras both added 11 points.

Saturday saw the Pirates venture back down Interstate 10 to tangle with the Southern Union Bison (AL). This game quickly turned into a slugfest. The Pirates struggled from the floor offensively but their toughness and togetherness on the defensive end of the floor proved to be enough as they walked away victorious with a score of 65-60 to start the season 5-0. Jalen Keago was the only Pirate in double digits scoring 17 while Brendan Terry pulled down a game high 13 rebounds.

Pensacola is back in action at home in Hartsell Arena on Tuesday, November 14th as the Bulldogs of Mississippi Gulf Coast come to square off with the Pirates. The tip off is set for 7:30pm.
