Pirates Drop Conference Opener to Gulf Coast

On Saturday, January 13th the Pirates opened Panhandle play against Gulf Coast State and lost 83-67.

It was a tough week leading up to the game for PSC as they only had seven players available to practice due to injury. The Commodores were fast paced coming out the gate and Pensacola had a hard time matching it and struggled with turnovers, having 10 in the first half. Gulf Coast took advantage and held a 41-30 lead at halftime.

The Pirates adjusted to the speed of the game better in the second half and showed improvement in their passing to help them only have three turnovers.

Calik "Duke" Thomas led PSC in scoring with 16 and Dimitri Clerc came off the bench to add 15 points. Colin Howells contributed 13 and Jalen Keago rounded out the double digit scorers with 12. Dylan Colon dished out a team high nine assists while grabbing seven rebounds.

Head coach Pete Pena said after the game he hopes to see the injured players start to return this week and some may see a few minutes against Chipola.
