Saturday night was a pivotal moment for the Pensacola State College (PSC) Pirates as they faced off against Northwest Florida in a crucial conference game. With a victory, the Pirates would at least clinch a spot in the play in game for next month's State Tournament, and they did not disappoint.
The Pirates came out strong in the first half, showcasing their offensive prowess. They shot an impressive 56.4% from the field and 53.8% from beyond the arc, leading to a 39-27 advantage at halftime. Will Vasser set the tone early, knocking down a couple of quick three-pointers. Dylan Colon was relentless in attacking the basket, while Dimitri Clerc dominated inside with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Despite a strong comeback effort from Northwest Florida in the second half, the Pirates held their ground and secured the 68-63 win. Coach Pete Pena expressed his pride in the team's performance, noting that they had faced significant adversity throughout the season. "It was a satisfying win," Pena said.
Will Vasser finished the game with 19 points, while Dylan Colon contributed 15 points and eight assists. The Pirates have a bye on Wednesday and will round out Panhandle play on Saturday when they go to Gulf Coast.
