Pirates Hold Off Eastern Florida in FCSAA Quarterfinals
Pensacola State College's men's basketball team secured a hard-fought victory against No. 3 Eastern Florida State College, winning 66-61 in the quarterfinals of the FCSAA Tournament in Niceville.
Pensacola State College's men's basketball team secured a hard-fought victory against No. 3 Eastern Florida State College, winning 66-61 in the quarterfinals of the FCSAA Tournament in Niceville.
The Pirates, seeded No. 6, started strong, establishing a 14-4 lead within the first six minutes. Despite Eastern Florida's efforts to close the gap, Pensacola maintained control, leading 32-27 at halftime.
In the second half, Pensacola State continued to push forward, extending their lead to 15 points early on. Although Eastern Florida made several attempts to narrow the margin, coming within four points at 52-48, Pensacola responded with a decisive 5-0 run to secure the win. Isaiah Sutherland was 6-for-6 at the free throw line to help seal the deal down the stretch.
Dylan Colon led the Pirates with 15 points while Will Vasser contributed 12. Dimitri Clerc had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Pensacola will face No. 7 seeded Miami Dade who upset No. 2 Chipola on Thursday. The semifinal game is scheduled for 6:00 pm at Raider Arena.
