Softball Wins Two on Sophomore Day

The Pirate Softball team closed out the 2016-17 campaign with two wins over Jefferson Davis on Friday. Sophomore Erika Greek did not allow a single run in the first game that PSC won 2-0. Greek had a strong, complete game performance on the mound as she only allowed two hits while striking out five. PSC scored their runs in the second inning when singles from Danielle de Ruiter, Lani Kaleikini and Shelby Thornsberry loaded the bases and Caitlyn Yockey drove in one run and was followed by Emily Corbitt plating another run with a sacrifice fly.

In game two, the Pirates grabbed an early lead they never relented as they easily defeated Jeff Davis 7-1. Danielle de Ruiter singled to drive in two runs in the first inning and after Jeff Davis scored their lone run in the second, the Pirates answered back in the third when Shelby Thornsberry doubled to drive in the run and Lani Kaleikini scored on a passed ball. The Pirates rounded out their scoring in the fifth when Jensen Strickland doubled to score Emily Corbitt, then Madison Marshall scored on an error followed by a sacrifice fly from Kaleikini to drive in the final run. Sophomore Heather Keane went the distance on the mound as she picked up her fifth win of the season. She struck out two while only giving up three hits.
