Softball Hosts Canadian Futures

The Pirates played a doubleheader versus the Canandian Futures Collegiate Showcase team on Monday evening. The Canadian Futures are coached by Joni Frei and make an annual trip to multiple colleges to gain experience and exposure. It is a fruitful experience for the Canadians and PSC as sophomore Danielle de Ruiter and freshman Sadie Rusteika are past participants from the Futures program.

The Pirates took the first game 12-0 as Kaeleen Koehler and Savannah Foster combined on the mound to throw a shutout. Koehler received the start and threw four innings while only giving up one hit and striking out 11 batters. Foster closed the game and also only gave up one hit while striking out five in the last three innings. Koehler was also a leading hitter in the game as she went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and drove in four runs. Brittney Rayfield also went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI's. Seven different Pirates contributed to tally 10 hits on the game.

PSC put on an offensive display in the second game as they won easily with a 21-1 score. The offense pounded out 25 hits with Lia Johnson, Madison Marshall and Sadie Rusteika leading the way each going 3-for-4 at the plate. Marshall, Johnson, Kayla Liebman and Brittney Rayfield each recorded doubles in the game. Shelby Griffin got the start on the mound and only gave up one hit while striking out five batters. Foster closed out game two and struck out three while only allowing two hits.

The Pirates will return to action on Saturday when they host the Powermill travel team at 12:00pm.
