The Pirate softball team traveled across town to face Division 2 University of West Florida on Tuesday and defeated them 12-9. Prior to the game the teams agreed to play a 10 inning game so each team could utilize all their players in the fall match up. The Argonauts struck first with a 2-run home run in the first inning. The Pirates bounced back to take the lead in the top of the third. Jensen Strickland and Kaeleen Koehler walked before Madison Marshall drove in a run with a double. Kayla Leibman plated another run with a ground ball to the right side and then Natalie Sorenson drove in the third run with a single off the center field fence.

The Pirates extended their lead to 5-2 in the fifth inning when Brittney Rayfield drove in two runs with a single to center field. West Florida used a single and couple of walks to make the score 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth before the Pirates exploded for five runs in the sixth inning. Tracey Ferguson led things off with a bomb to left center field and was followed by a single from Sadie Rusteika who eventually scored on a ball off the bat of Sorenson. Alexis Guzman then drove in a couple runs on a line drive to right field and the score was 10-3 at the end of the sixth inning. In the seventh inning Leibman used a sacrifice fly to drive in a run and Sorenson followed with another RBI single to round out the scoring on the day for PSC. The Argonauts were able to utilize an assortment of hits, walks and errors to have a big inning in their half of the seventh to round out the scoring for both teams in the game. 

On the day the Pirates collected 15 hits with Sorenson leading the way going 3-for-4 with four RBI's while Marshall was 2-for-2 with two walks and a double. Four pitchers saw action on the mound for PSC and Kaeleen Koehler closed out the game strong by giving up no runs and only allowing two hits in the last two innings. 

The Pirates will travel to Baton Rouge on Saturday to face McNeese State and Louisiana State University.
