Softball Drops Two Over the Weekend

Softball Drops Two Over the Weekend

The Pirate softball team struggled to find their niche on Saturday and ended up dropping games to Georgia Military and College of Central Florida.

In the first game against Georgia Military (GM) the Pirates could not get their bats going and they fell 3-1. The GM pitcher maintained complete control until Danielle de Ruiter and Sadie Rusteika picked up hits in the sixth, but were stranded on base. Pensacola State finally got on the board in the seventh when Kaeleen Koehler led off with a walk a then scored on a double off the bat of Jensen Strickland. Unfortunately that would be the only run the Pirates could muster.

The second game of the day was against no. 4 state ranked College of Central Florida. The Pirates got started early when Lia Johnson led off with a single and eventually scored on a squeeze bunt from Jensen Strickland. Another run was plated with the help of an error and it was quickly 2-0 Pirates. Central Florida (CF) answered back in the second inning and pushed across four runs to take the lead. The score held until the sixth when CF used extra base hits to extend the lead to 6-2 and then continued their scoring in the seventh to make it 10-2. The Pirates briefly threatened in the seventh when they got two runners on from an error and walk before Strickland drilled a ball off of the pitcher to plate PSC's third run and Kaeleen Koehler scored the fourth run on an error before CF recorded the last two outs and claimed the 10-4 victory.

The Pirates are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday when they host Enterprise State Community College at 4:00 & 6:00 pm.
