The Pirate softball team opened conference play on Tuesday with two wins over Tallahassee Community College (TCC).

In game one the Pirates stole the lead late and held on for an 11-6 victory. The game was tied at six in the top of the seventh when Alexis Guzman homered to drive in three runs. Her home run was followed by a 2-run shot off the bat of Natalie Sorensen to give the Pirates a comfortable five run lead.

The Pirates jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before Tallahassee tied the game at six in the fifth inning. Savannah Foster entered the game on the mound in the fifth and subsequently shutdown the Eagles by retiring all seven batters she faced.

Guzman led PSC in batting by going 2-for-4 with five RBI's and two home runs in the game. Kayla Leibman was 3-for-4 with an RBI while Madison Marshall went 2-for-3 with an RBI, double and sacrifice fly.

The bats stayed hot for the Pirates in game two as they used 13 hits to cruise to a 12-1 win in five innings.

A bases loaded walk to Marshall in the top of the first kicked off the scoring for PSC. In the second inning Guzman drove in two runs with a single up the middle and Marshall increased the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single of her own. Tallahassee scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the second, but then the Pirates responded with five runs in the third. Shelby Thornsberry started things off with a home run to centerfield that was followed by an RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Kaeleen Koehler. Marshall drove in a run with a single to right and then a single from Jensen Strickland plated the final two runs of the inning.

The Pirates added one run in the fourth before rounding out their scoring in the fifth courtesy of an RBI single from Sorensen and a sacrifice fly from Danielle de Ruiter

Leibman was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with one run batted in while Marshall was 2-for-3 with three RBI's and a walk.

Shelby Griffin picked up the win on the mound while only allowing three hits and striking out five.

The Pirates will return to action on Thursday, Marrch 15 when they host Northwest Florida at 4:00 and 6:00 pm.
