Pirates Fall to Chipola

Pirates Fall to Chipola

The Pirates watched the lead slip away early and could not recover in a 10-2 loss to no. 1 ranked Chipola in the first game on Friday.

Pensacola State struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing the Indians. Chipola kicked things off with four runs in the first inning and were leading by seven when the Pirates pushed their first run across in the fourth.

Kayla Leibman started things in the fourth with a single and immediately scored when Kaeleen Koehler drove a double off the right field fence.

The Pirates picked up their second run in the sixth when Koehler singled and eventually scored on a double off the bat of Jensen Strickland

Game two proved a little more exciting at the start as the Pirates took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a 2-run shot to centerfield from Natalie Sorensen. This was only the second time all season that Chipola has trailed going into the fifth inning.

The Indians immediately responded and regained the lead by putting up four runs and PSC could not push anymore runs across and ended up falling 11-2.

Sorensen and Caitlyn Yockey were the only Pirates to collect hits in the game.

Pensacola State will have a full week of practice before they travel to Panama City on Saturday, April 7th to face Gulf Coast State in a double header.
