Softball Makes Productive Trip to Jacksonville

The Pensacola State softball team traveled to Jacksonville this past weekend and faced Jacksonville University (JU) and the University of North Florida (UNF).

On Friday night the Pirates played to a 10 inning 6-6 tie versus the JU Dolphins. Shayne O'Connell had a strong outing on the mound and struck out eight batters in the course of 6.2 innings of work. She was relieved by Raquel Latta who closed out the game and only gave up one run in 3.1 innings of work. Ashley Valencia helped lead the offense as she went 3-for-6 in the game with one run batted in (RBI) while Holly Stewart was 3-for-5 in the game. The PSC offense was strong throughout the whole game as they collected 13 hits and only had one strikeout in the contest.

It took awhile on Saturday for the Pirates to get going as they dropped the first game to UNF 17-1. Valencia, Natalie Sorenson and Ana Reyes picked up hits in the game while Destiny Pacetti collected the lone RBI.

The second game was a back and forth affair that saw the Pirates fall 3-2. Kaeleen Koehler pitched a complete game and only gave up six hits while allowing two earned runs. Valencia was 1-for-4 in the game and picked up a key RBi in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 2-2. Pacetti had a strong performance in the outfield as she turned a key double play on a full extension diving catch and doubled up the runner at second to end a threat early in the game.

The Pirates will host a doubleheader against the Canadian Futures on Monday, October 8 at 2:00 pm.
