Pensacola State pitcher Shayne O'Connell was named the NJCAA National Pitcher Pitcher of the Week (POW) as well as the Region 8 POW for her performance in the circle this past weekend.

O'Connell picked up complete game wins against Roane State and Bishop State in the Pensacola State Invitational on Friday and Saturday. She tossed a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts in the win over Bishop State. In the game against Roane she struck out nine and only allowed one earned run to give her a 0.50 ERA for the week. 

So far this season O'Connell is 4-0 and has accumulated 46 strikeouts while only allowing 13 hits in 28.2 innings of work. Her overall ERA for the season is sitting at 0.49. 

The Pirates are currently 6-2 and are ranked 7th in this week's NJCAA Region 8 Coaches' Poll. They will travel to Dothan, Alabama this weekend and will face nationally ranked no. 6 Central Florida and no. 14 Salt Lake as well as Georgia Military and Central Alabama.
