Softball Wins Four Over the Weekend

The Pensacola State softball team dominated the PSC Invitational this weekend winning all four games they played. The Pirates scored a total of 56 runs while picking up three run rule victories. Pensacola currently sports a 6-1 record on the season. Continue reading below for individual game recaps. 

Bryant & Stratton 0 PSC 24 (5 innings)

Jorja Barrett and Madison Myers combined for a no-hitter in the first game of the weekend against Bryant & Stratton. 

Barrett started the game and threw two innings while striking out four batters and Myers closed the game by throwing three innings and striking out three.

The offense exploded for 11 runs in the first inning of the game. The Pirates collected 17 hits with every batter reaching base at least once. 

Madison Myers was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI's and a walk while Ashley Valencia was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI's. Kylie Chambers was also perfect at the plate going 2-for-2 with two RBI's and a walk. Maddy Childs had a grand slam in the first inning and Monique Poitevin added a 3-run home run in the third inning. 

Coastal Alabama-North 0 PSC 13 (5 innings)

The Pirate bats stayed hot in the nightcap as they hammered out 12 hits. 

Jorja Barrett got the start in the circle and only allowed two hits while striking out seven. 

The offense plated seven runs in the first inning and another six in the second inning. Leadoff batter Madison Myers was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the game and a stolen base. Susanna Soldi was also 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI's. Destiny Pacetti was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI's while Ashley Valencia was also 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a stolen base. 

Bishop State 2 PSC 10 (6 innings)

It took the offense a little longer to get going on Saturday, but eventually the Pirates used 10 hits to pick up their third win of the weekend. 

Pensacola got on the board in the third when Raquel Latta reached on an error and advanced on a single from Madison Myers before being squeezed in by Maddy Childs

Bishop State answered in the top of the fourth by plating a run courtesy of a walk and well placed single. 

In their half of the fourth Ana Reyes walked and later scored on an error to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead. 

The Pirates plated five runs in the fifth inning courtesy of errors and singles from Shaylan Whatman, Destiny Pacetti and Madison Myers.

The sixth inning saw Monique Poitevin smash a 2-run home run to left field to extend the lead to 9-2 before Madisen Nelson ended the game early by driving in the 10th run. 

Myers had another stellar outing going 3-for-4 with two RBI's. Monique Poiteven was also 3-for-4 with 3 RBI's, a double and home run. 

Susanna Soldi made her first appearance in the circle and threw a complete game striking out five and only allowing three hits. 

Coastal Alabama-North 6 PSC 9

In the final game of the weekend Coastal Alabama tried to make things interesting, but the Pirates were able to hold on for the win.

Coastal used a lead off double and error to get on the board in the top of the first. Pensacola answered immediately in the bottom of the inning with Maddy Childs blasting her second home run of the weekend to tie the score at one. 

Coastal regained the lead in the top of the third plating two runs before Jorja Barrett took over on the mound with bases loaded and subsequently struck out the batter to end the threat. 

In the bottom of the inning Susanna Soldi singled and later scored on a single from Shaylan Whatman. An RBI sacrifice fly from Monique Poitevin tied the game and then an RBI off the bat of Destiny Pacetti gave the Pirates the lead again.

The Pirates added two runs in both the fourth and fifth inning to extend their lead to 8-3 and a home run from Poitevin in the sixth made it 9-3 heading into the seventh inning.

A couple of errors and singles made things interesting in the top of the seventh as Coastal pulled within three before pitcher Jorja Barrett dug in and struck out three batters to end the game. 

Madison Myers had her first start of the season in the circle and went 2.2 innings before Jorja Barrett came on in relief and picked up the win while striking out seven. 

Myers was 3-for-5 at the plate and Ellie Hansen was 2-for-3 for two runs scored. Shaylan Whatman collected a team high three RBI's. 

Pensacola will hit the field again on Tuesday when they host John A. Logan in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm.
