The Pensacola softball team won two exciting games Tuesday night against John A. Logan (JAL). This improved the Pirates record to 8-1 and extended their current win streak to six games. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

JAL 3 PSC 5

The first game proved to be a pitching and defensive matchup the first three innings as neither offense could push anything across.

In the bottom of the fourth PSC got things started Shaylan Whatman drew a walk and pinch runner Kylie Chambers stole second base. Ashley Valenica singled and then Monique Poitevin drove in the first run of the game. A sacrifice bunt from Raquel Latta put two runners in scoring position and then Ellie Hansen plated the second run with a sacrifice fly to left field before an RBI single from Sajarie Jones made the score 3-0.

JAL responded in the top of the fifth with a 2-run home run to pull within one run, but the Pirates did not wait to respond. In their half of the inning Maddy Childs singled and then scored on a double off the bat of Whatman who then scored on a double from Ashley Valencia to make it 5-3.

Jorja Barrett who got the start in the circle proceeded to strikeout the side in the top of the six before the Pirates closed things out in the seventh for the win.

Barrett went the distance on the rubber to pick up her sixth win of the season while striking out 10 and scattering five hits.

Ashley Valencia helped power the offense going 2-for-3 with a double and RBI while Madison Myers (two stolen bases) and Maddy Childs both went 2-for-4.

JAL 3 PSC 5

Game two started out a little shaky for the Pirates as JAL took a 2-0 lead to start off the first inning.

Pensacola answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning after Madison Myers led off with a single and stole second base before scoring on a ground out from Maddy Childs.

A home run from the Vols in the top of the second gave them a two run lead before Tori Fletcher entered the pitching cirlcle and struck out the first batter she faced and induced a line out to end the threat.

The score remained 3-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning. With two runners on Fletcher smacked an RBI single to pull the Pirates within one run. Ana Reyes stepped into the box as a pinch hitter with bases loaded and singled up the middle to knot the game at three. Monique Poitevin followed that with a 2-RBI single to give PSC a 5-3 lead that they would not relinquish.

Madison Myers again was 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored and a stolen base. Sajarie Jones hit the Pirates first triple of the season and also recorded a stolen base.

In her first appearance of the season Tori Fletcher threw 5.2 innings and picked up the win while striking out seven batters and only allowing three hits.

The Pirates will host no. 18 ranked Chattanooga State in a doubleheader on Thursday starting at 3:00 pm.
