Softball Wins Three Over the Weekend

The Pensacola State softball team traveled to Sanford, Florida this past weekend and walked away with three quality wins. Continue reading below for individual game recaps.

Sante Fe 3 PSC 7

After Sante Fe plated one run in the top of the first, PSC used a sacrifice fly from Jessica Ford to tie it up in the bottom of the inning.

In the second inning Jenna Trim led things off with a single before scoring on a homerun off the bat of Shaylan Whatman to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead.

The lead was extended for 4-1 in the third when Jessica Ford doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.

Things were quiet until the fifth inning when Sante Fe used a two-run double to pull within one run. In the bottom half of the inning, singles from Susanna Soldi and Jessica Ford set the table for Jenna Trim whose hard ground ball plated both runners to give PSC a 6-4 lead.

In the sixth inning Mya Geros walked and promptly scored on a triple to right field by Susanna Soldi to round out the scoring.

Jorja Barrett got the start and picked up her fourth win of the season by throwing 6.2 innings while striking out four and allowing three hits. Heleena Reinhardt entered the game with runners on first and second to close out the game by inducing a fly out.

Soldi paced the offense by going 3-for-4 with an RBI, run scored and triple. Ford was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI while Whatman and Trim added two RBI's each.

Miami Dade 1 PSC 12 (5 innings)

The Pirates handily defeated Miami Dade in their second game of the day thanks in part to Ellie Hansen who drove in four runs. Hansen drove in runs on a single in the first inning and a single in the second.

Pensacola exploded for six runs in the second inning courtesy of Hansen's two RBI's as well has RBI's from Monique Poitevin, Shaylan Whatman and Mya Geros

Maddy Childs stroke a solo homerun in the third inning for the Pirates.

Avery Beauchaine had another strong outing in the circle as she picked up her third win of the season throwing four innings and only giving up two hits and no earned runs. Heleena Rhinehardt again entered the game to close things out in the fifth inning.

Hansen was 2-for-3 with four RBI's, two runs scored and a stolen base while Shaylan Whatman was 2-for-3 with three RBI's. Jessica Ford and Susanna Soldi both recorded two hits and two runs scored in the win.

PSC 2 Florida Southwestern 5

Pensacola dropped a hard fought game to the nation's number one ranked team Florida Southwestern (FSW) on Sunday.

FSW got on the board first in the second inning when they used a double to plate one run.

Pitching and defense was strong throughout the game and the score remained 1-0 until the fifth inning. Mya Geros reached on a ball down the third baseline and Sajarie Jones walked to set the table for PSC. Jessica Ford drove a hard hit ball into the outfield that was misplayed and allowed two run to cross the plate and give the Pirates a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth the Bucs took the lead courtesy of a 2-run homerun and added two insurance runs to hold on for the 5-2 victory. 

Ellie Hansen, Monique Poitevin and Mya Geros each recorded one hit for the Pirates. 

PSC 1 Seminole State 0

The Pirates bounced back with an overall strong team performance against Seminole State to close out the weekend with a victory.

With two out in the top of the first Maddy Childs laced a double to left field and then scored on a hard hit ball from Jessica Ford.

That was all the Pirates needed to hold on for the win as Jenna Trim was dominant in the circle throwing a complete game with eight strikeouts and only allowing two hits.

Pensacola recorded eight hits in the game with Shaylan Whatman providing two of them.
