Pirates Fall Short Against Chipola

The Pensacola State softball team traveled to Marianna, FL for a doubleheader against Chipola on Wednesday. The Pirates dropped a tough first game before the second was suspended in the bottom of the first inning due to rain.
The first game was a pitchers duel until the fourth inning when the Pirates finally pushed a run across. With two outs Monique Poitevin singled and advanced around to score thanks to three walks in a row from the Chipola pitcher.
The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth. After a strikeout and Indian was struck by a pitch and advanced to second due to a defensive miscue. Another Indian was hit by a pitch to load the bases before the next batter drove a homerun to center to give Chipola a 4-1 lead.
In the top of the seventh Kelsi Bargman and Mya Geros recorded back to back singles to start things. With one out Susanna Soldi drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Ellie Hansen plated one run with fielder's choice, but the rally fell short when a strikeout ended the game.
Jorja Barrett had a strong performance in the circle as she threw six innings and struck out seven while allowing no earned runs.
Mya Geros was 2-for-3 in the game while Kelsi Bargman, Monique Poitevin and Sajarie Jones each added a hit.
The Pirates have a bye week and will return to action on April 9th when they host Gulf Coast State to complete the first round of Panhandle play.
